Seymour Ambulance Association

About Us

The Seymour Ambulance Association (SAA) has a rich history of service and community commitment. Founded in 1969 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 1972, it began with the efforts of twenty-four volunteers who wanted to improve emergency medical services in Seymour. Today, SAA remains the primary ambulance provider for the town, which has a population of approximately 16,540 and averages over 2,000 calls annually. The organization has grown significantly over the years, with a dedicated team of around 50 volunteers, as well as three full-time paid staff members overseeing daily operations and training coordination.

Our Company Mission & Services

Mission and services

Seymour Ambulance’s mission is to deliver high-quality emergency medical care and service to the residents and visitors of Seymour and surrounding towns. The organization’s goal is to offer a consistent, professional EMS system that also includes educational components for the community.

Historically, the town funded the service entirely, including the purchase of ambulances, medical supplies, and crew quarters, but this placed a substantial tax burden on local residents. To ease this financial load, the organization began billing insurance companies for ambulance transportation in the early 1990s. Fundraising efforts, including an annual appeal and small events, along with grant applications, have supported the purchase of necessary equipment and operational needs.

Seymour Ambulance operates as a basic life support (BLS) organization utilizing emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to provide emergency medical services to the Town of Seymour and surrounding communities. In the case of more advanced, life-threatening emergencies requiring advanced life support (ALS), Seymour Ambulance partners with Valley Emergency Medical Services for support through the use of their paramedics.

Our Challenges & Recovery

Challenges and Recovery

In 2005, the organization faced significant challenges when allegations of mismanagement of funds led to an extensive investigation by both the Town and the State’s Attorney. This investigation lasted several years and resulted in a settlement, which allowed the organization to focus on recovery. Following this, Scott Andrews was hired as Executive Director, and an oversight board was established to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Since then, SAA has regained the confidence and respect of the community, with many residents offering positive feedback about the service provided. The leadership and volunteers take great pride in their work, maintaining a strong reputation for excellent service and well-maintained equipment.

Today, Seymour Ambulance continues to operate with a clear mission to provide high-quality EMS services while maintaining strong community ties and a commitment to fiscal responsibility. The volunteer spirit remains at the core of the organization’s success.

Dedicated to Saving Lives, Serving Our Community

Our commitment extends beyond emergency response to active participation in outreach programs, health education, and training sessions that empower community members with essential life-saving skills.

Community Involvement and Outreach

In addition to its core mission of providing emergency medical services, the Seymour Ambulance Association is deeply involved in community outreach and public education. SAA participates in numerous local events, including parades, fireworks, the Trunk-or-Treat event, the Seymour Pumpkin Festival, and various events hosted by the Seymour Land Trust..

Training and Education Programs

SAA is committed to providing ongoing training and education for both its volunteers and the wider community. The association conducts programs to train new and existing EMS providers, offers CPR and babysitting courses for the general public, and provides specialized training to specific groups, such as the elderly and high school students. These efforts help to improve the overall health and safety of the community, ensuring that individuals are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need in emergency situations.

Commitment to Excellence Programs

Seymour Ambulance continues to strive for excellence in all areas of its operations. The organization is focused on improving the quality of care it provides, enhancing EMS education, and maintaining the highest standards of service. Through investments in state-of-the-art equipment and ongoing professional development for its staff and volunteers, SAA aims to remain a premier emergency medical service organization, one that the Seymour community can rely on, support, and be proud of.
